Pinot Grigio has become one of the most popular types of wine in the United States. They are made in a wide variety of styles, yet most of them are light, refreshing wines. In many ways Pinot Grigio is mirroring the dramatic growth of Chardonnay that began decades ago. Perhaps it is because much of today’s Pinot Grigio mimics the early Chardonnay's – easy drinking wines with plenty of fruit. However, we've enjoyed some truly spectacular Pinot Grigio from Italy. These wines are rich, dramatic and flavorful. These wines weren't "white", they had color! Pinot Grigio grapes are actually darkly pigmented as shown in this picture. After much research (granted, this research included tasting many, many Pinot Grigios) we set out to produce a Pinot Grigio of character and distinction.
Our La Famiglia Ramato Originale is grown in the heart of Sonoma's renowned Russian River Valley where warm days and cool nights slow the maturation of our Pinot Grigio grapes. Extended "hang time" allows the fruit to develop intricate and intense flavors while maintaining vibrant acidity.
Pinot Grigio grapes are a rich violet, but the vast majority of them are quickly pressed off the skins to make a white, almost clear wine. Our Ramato Originale is created utilizing the traditional Italian method of producing Pinot Grigio with extended skin contact prior to fermentation. The resulting wine is a sophisticated Pinot Grigio, true to the varietal and with a beautiful bronze color from the extended skin contact.
We invite you to try our La Famiglia Pinot Grigio to discover the Ramato Originale difference!
